Privacy Policy

This site is a personal portfolio and writing site run by Jarkko Lietolahti. This page describes what data the site collects, why, and how you can get in touch about it.

    Controller

    Jarkko Lietolahti, Finland. Contact: jarkko.lietolahti@jambau.fi.

For any question about your data, email the address above.

    What data is collected

Account data: if you sign in, your email address is stored so the site can recognise you. Sign-in works with a magic link or a Google account; in the Google case the email address linked to that account is received. The site itself does not store a password.

Comments: the text you write, the article or project it belongs to, the passage of text you highlighted (if any), the chosen visibility (public, semi-private or private), the timestamps, and your user account as the author. Comments can only be written while signed in, and their contents are hidden from signed-out visitors.

Review comments: when a reviewer or an agent leaves feedback on a draft through the site's API, the free-text author name they supply and the feedback text are stored. These are visible only to the site owner.

Reading statistics: for each article view a randomly generated reader identifier stored in your browser, the article, the time, how far the page was scrolled, how long the page was actively open, whether the read came from the web page, the Markdown endpoint or the API, whether the reader was signed in, the referring URL and its host name, and any UTM campaign parameters in the link you arrived from.

The reader identifier is not linked to your name or account, but it does persist in your browser, so repeat visits from the same browser are recognised as the same reader. Your browser's user agent string (browser and operating system version) is stored with each read. No IP address and no precise location are stored.

    Why the data is used

Account data is used only to authenticate you and to determine what you are allowed to see and do.

Comments and review feedback are used to publish, review and moderate discussion on articles and projects.

Reading statistics are used, mainly in aggregate, to understand which articles are read, how far people read them, and through which channels they arrive. They are not used for advertising or profiling, and they are not sold or shared with third parties for their own purposes.

    Cookies and local storage

The site does not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.

Your browser's local storage holds your sign-in session if you sign in, and the randomly generated reader identifier used for reading statistics. Session storage temporarily holds the campaign parameters of the link you arrived from, for the duration of the visit.

Clearing your browser's site data removes both, and a new reader identifier is generated on the next visit.

    Service providers

The site runs on Lovable Cloud, whose database, authentication, storage and serverless functions are provided by Supabase and hosted in the EU. Data described above is stored there.

Signing in with Google means Google processes that sign-in according to its own privacy policy.

    Retention

Account data is kept as long as the account exists. Comments and review feedback are kept until they are deleted by their author or by the site owner. Reading statistics are kept without a set time limit for trend analysis; they are not tied to a name or an account.

    Your rights

Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation you may request access to the personal data held about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, or object to its processing. Send such requests to jarkko.lietolahti@jambau.fi.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Finnish Data Protection Ombudsman.

    Changes

This policy may be updated as the site changes. The date below shows when it was last revised.
